Confident and surprising are two words that should echo through your mind after listening to Eden James' debut LP Never Setting Sun, a thinker of an album that will grow with each listen. Anchored in the modern day, Never Setting Sun is a collection of breezy tunes that don't go overboard on sentimentality, but aren't lacking in emotion either: tales of loves lost and lessons learned, but with a refreshing angle.
Upbeat foot-tappers 'Stovetop' and the title track are hook-laden poppers; 'Now or Never' moves between low verses and a rock-laden, pleading chorus; 'Independence', 'Firescars', and 'Dance With Me' showcase James' deft touch for writing a melody and 'Cardiac' is a gorgeous lullaby. Never Setting Sun is a strong debut. (4 Stars)
