The first thing you notice about the new five tracker from Brisbane's The Carousel, Quietly Building An Empire, is the art work; it's way ahead of the standard of most independent releases. In fact, it's way ahead of the standard of most major label releases. The second thing you notice is how strong the music is. Yes, there is a lot of slow-mo guitar pop around at present, but songs like 19 In Another Day, with it's cascading harmonies and huge, fuzzy guitar sounds, fully realise the potential shown on last year's If You've Been Waiting EP.
