We have been song-writing with Danish artists 'Marlene' for a few weeks. We worked up three songs together and the results are really beautiful - they highlight her haunting tone and unusual vocal phrasing and lyrics. It is a joy to work on music that has none of the usual baggage of commercial responsibility. Much more art than product. What is it about that part of the world that inspires such tragic yet beautiful music? Marlene is now back in Denmark with her family and we wish her the best of luck with her pursuits in Europe.

One of New Zealand's finest up & coming hardcore bands are boarding a plane to Australia in the next week to commence recording with us on their debut EP for So Frank Music. We are looking forward to getting into some nasty sounds and capturing as much of their energy as possible on the recording. They have worked up some fantastic songs so keep your eyes and ears out for a release in the near future. We can see big things for these guys...

NEW EMERSON RECORDING 

At the end of this month we will be starting pre production with local Brisbane rockers Emerson. They have been writing material over the last year and have worked those down to a short list. Recording is getting underway in April once the songs have been kicked around a bit and a release should be out soon after. Keep your ears open for new Emerson songs from May onwards.

We are heading down to melbourne in a week to finish the tracking for the new Mayfly album. It is coming together fantastically and is the most legit sounding roots record they have done yet. Can't wait to see what this year holds for them.

We have spent nearly a month with the band so far recording various tracks in various locations. Pre-production was originally done for the album over a year ago but since then there has been a bunch of new songs written and the band have really found their identity. We all made a conscious decision to not over produce any element of the record so drums have been done in kitchens and halls and studios and vocals have been done in bedrooms, lounges and toilets.

We have been using the minimum mics needed to record and are trying to do as few takes as possible so the end result is as honest and legitimate as possible. We really think the band have stuck to the plan and the progress so far is pretty exciting. We will keep updates posted as things progress - keeps your ears and eyes open for a new Mayfly record in a few months.

8 YEARS AND COUNTING...

That's right people... the solo album is finally gaining momentum. I am hopefully going to start tracking it within a month and roll through it as quickly as possible. I feel like the mechanic who spends all his time working on other people's cars and neglects his 1980's bomb that barely gets him to work. Every time I get time off between projects the last thing I want to do is record music. I have the songs chosen, the players are ready and motivation is building again - time to get off my butt and get into it... yes Jake & Dale, I can hear you thinking 'yeah... heard that before!'....... I know, I know.....

But seriously, I have shortlisted 60 songs down to about 20 and had grand plans of releasing a double album as my solo debut but I think I should start with something I can realistically fit into my schedule. So I have decided on 14 songs that I will fully record with somewhere between 10-12 making the album. I am hoping to have it all wrapped and released by mid year...

THE LIFE & DEATH OF THE MINORS 

One of Brisbane's finest up and coming bands, 'The Minors', reocorded their debut album with us over 18 months and we brought the project to completion in 2005. Since then the band has broken up, which is a loss to the local scene and Australian music in general. It is one of the best projects we have worked on and we wish the guys the best in any future pursuits. We hope everyone out there gets the chance to hear it someday as the album looks like it won't be released. We do have one track available in the downloads section so check it out.
